Like said try to find a zf. Also, I bought a 328i e46 parts car to swap my e36 325i and almost nothing fits besides the trans. So be careful, you'll be reselling a lot of the swap parts and buying e36 stuff

Using an E36 in the snow can be done, but it will be painful. Traction control helps alot and winter tires are a must. Tips: Annual rustproofing is a must if you intend on doing this and keeping your car for a while yet. Get good winter tires on their own set of rims; it can be pricey for a set, but its a night and day difference in car control.
